Top 5 Marathi Movies that are a must watch! (Genre - Drama)
I have always been a huge fan of Marathi movies. Being born in a Maharashtrian family, this language is much closer to my heart. For someone like me who is always on the go, I enjoy watching movies too the same way. Thanks to mobile phones and mind-blowing Video on Demand apps, I can now watch my favorite Marathi movie online anytime, anywhere. One such app is the ZEE5 app & that’s the one I trust when it comes to Marathi movies. It is a video on demand platform run by ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Limited. It was launched in India on February 14, 2018, with content in 12 languages. With ZEE producing the best of the Marathi films, they are easily available to watch on the ZEE5 app.

1. Dambis: Directed by Makarand Anaspure who also plays the lead character in it. The story centers around Dattu, a wannabe actor who is hired to pose as the grandfather of a little child whose parents are too busy to spend any time with him. With his excellent comic timing and script, he successfully shows the issues of a modern nuclear family. With Makarand Anaspure in the movie, one will only be smiling by the end of the movie.

2. Shwaas: This movie was India’s official entry to the 2004 Oscars. The story is about an old man’s struggle to accept the reality that the only way to save his grandson is at the cost of his eyesight. A movie that will leave you in tears with Shri Arun Nalawde’s beautiful dialogues and acting. At the same time, it will teach you how to have a positive outlook towards life.

3, Mi Shivaji Raje Bhosle Boltoy: Like most of the Maharashtrians who feel like they are losing their identity in the state, here is the story of a man who felt the same way. Mr. Dinkar Bhonsle, played by Sachin Khedekar feels that Mumbai is losing its respect and dignity but soon realizes, that it’s not just other communities responsible for it, Maharashtrians are equally to be blamed for this situation. How the ideals of Shivaji Maharaj drive him to create a change is what the movie is about.

4, Yashwantrao Chavan: Goes without saying, this is a biopic drama film on the legendary leader starring Ashok Lokhande, Om Bhutkar, Lubna Salim and Nana Patekar. The film is based on the life and journey of the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. There is a lot to know about Maharashtra and its people and his story is one such that cannot be missed.

5. Anumati: Vikram Gokhale is one of the finest actors the Marathi industry is blessed with and I make it a point to not miss a single movie of his. This is a story of a man who goes pillar to post and does everything possible to arrange funds in order to save his wife’s life who is on life support. The movie shows his helplessness but it also highlights the love of senior citizens which we rarely get to see these days. Vikram Gokhale won the National Award for his stunning acting in this movie.
