Top 5 Mistakes you may be making while using Depilatory creams at Home

8:27:00 AM

Hello Chicsters!

There are many methods to choose from when it comes to getting rid of unwanted body hair. One such method is depilatory creams. Depilatory creams are cosmetic chemical creams that help you remove unwanted hair from your skin. Today, we will be shedding light on some of the mistakes you may be making while using depilatory creams at home.

Top 5 Mistakes you may be making while using Depilatory creams at Home

Mistake 1: Not checking your hair & skin type

Depilatory creams have evolved with time and there is something in the market for everyone now. Don’t take the easy way out and assume that all depilatory creams are meant for all skin types. When selecting a depilatory cream make sure it suits your skin type. If you are a dry skin or normal skin or sensitive skin type make sure to pick a cream that is formulated specially for your skin type. Also, it has been noted that the effectiveness of depilatory creams depends on the thickness and coarseness of hair as well.

Mistake 2: Not trying Multiple Patch tests

A patch test is very important when trying a depilatory cream for the first time. Your hair has a different thickness on different parts of your body. To see what areas are more sensitive and what application time work best for you as per your hair type do conduct multiple patch tests. Not trying multiple patch tests can lead to skin irritation and even chemical burns in some cases.

Mistake 3: Rubbing instead of Wiping

Rubbing off depilatory cream can cause your skin to get more sensitive or even irritated. When removing depilatory cream, use a damp cloth or spatula and gently wipe in the opposite direction of hair growth. Also, once all hair has been removed rinse your skin with lukewarm water and pat dry to get all the remaining cream off.

Mistake 4: Not Following the instructions to a T

The one mistake almost everyone has been guilty of at one point or the other is not following instructions or being lenient with them. Although it can be tempting to leave the depilatory cream on for a longer period of time to make sure every single hair is removed, don’t do it! Exceeding the time frame mentioned in the instructions can cause skin irritation and chemical burns.

Mistake 5: Not making sure your hair is the right length

Another key mistake that most people are guilty of making is using depilatory creams when your hair is not the right length. Just like other methods of hair removal, to achieve the most optimal result you must let your hair reach a certain length. This is best achieved when your hair length is between a stubble and a quarter inch.
